Can I back up my UCM6300 series PBX to GDMS if it’s connected to Remote Connect?

Yes, currently, the UCM6300 series supports backing up configurations, voicemail files, and Zero Configuration files to GDMS.

Can I use the special server address created by GDMS for endpoint and trunk registration?

Yes, you can.

For endpoints:

  • SIP Server Address: The address created by GDMS
  • SIP Server Port: The Public TLS Port value on the UCM RemoteConnect -> Plan page.
  • SIP Transport: TLS
  • NAT Traversal: STUN

GDMS is no longer detecting the UCM6300 series online after a while. How can I fix this?

Please check your firewall to ensure that ports 3478 and 6514 are open. GDMS communicates with the UCM6300 series through these ports.

How do I set up the UCM6300 series system for UCM RemoteConnect, and do I need to pay for it?

To set up your UCM6300 series system for the UCM RemoteConnect cloud service:

  1. Go to https://gdms.cloud and log in to your account.
  2. Make sure you have selected the organization under which you want the UCM to be.
  3. Go to Devices -> PBX Device page and click on Add Device. If you have multiple UCM6300s to add to GDMS, you can also import a .xls/.xlsx file in the appropriate format.
  4. Enter the MAC address, serial number, and site of the UCM6300.
  5. The UCM6300 should appear online on the PBX Device page after a few seconds.

The UCM RemoteConnect cloud service is currently in Open Beta Free Trial until July 2021. Hence, no payment is required for this service during this Free Trial period. Official subscription plans will be released after the Open Beta period ends in July 2021.

My UCM6300 series PBX never appeared online after being added to GDMS. What should I do?

Please check your UCM6300 series System Settings -> TR-069 page and ensure that the Enable TR-069 option is enabled and the ACS URL field is configured with https://acs.gdms.cloud.

What is UCM RemoteConnect?

RemoteConnect is a cloud service that allows administrators to remotely and securely access and manage their UCMs without the need for detailed firewall configurations. It also provides end users the ability to access UCM extensions for voice/video calls or video conferencing/collaboration using web browsers (Mozilla Firefox/Google Chrome), mobile devices (iOS/Android), or other Grandstream devices. It allows endpoint devices (IP phones, video phones, etc.) to connect without worrying about NAT/firewall traversal. UCM RemoteConnect is part of GDMS (Grandstream Device Management System), which runs on Amazon AWS with 99.999% reliability and nearly unlimited scalability.

Will disabled SIP accounts on UCM6300 be synchronized with GDMS?

No, disabled extensions will not be synchronized with GDMS. However, if the disabled extension was previously synchronized with GDMS, it will remain in GDMS even if it’s disabled on the UCM. Other changes on the extension will not be synchronized with the corresponding account in GDMS.

Can I restore a backup from UCM6200 series/UCM6510 to a UCM6300 series device?

No, direct support is not available for that, and backup files from UCM6200 series/UCM6510 cannot be directly restored to a UCM6300 series device. Please contact Grandstream support to assist in converting UCM6200 series/UCM6510 backup files for compatible UCM6300 series models.

Can I use GVC/GXV/Wave Lite to join a video conference with UCM6300?

Yes, you can use compatible devices like GVC (Grandstream Video Conferencing), GXV (Grandstream IP Video Phones), and Wave Lite (mobile app) to join a video conference with UCM6300 series PBX.

Can I use the Grandstream GVC3200 series video conferencing device as an MCU (Multipoint Control Unit) with the UCM6300 series to support more than 9 video feeds (maximum for UCM6300) during a video conference?

When GVC3200 video conferencing devices are used with the IPVideoTalk cloud service, they can support up to 49 video feeds. However, when used with the UCM6300 series, the maximum supported video feeds from the UCM is 9. This is due to the fact that the UCM6300 series video conferencing operates differently from the IPVideoTalk cloud service in terms of mixing/forwarding video feeds. The displayed video feeds on the GVC3200 series also rely on the SFU/MCU support feature of the GVC3200 series model.

  • The UCM6300 series uses the Selective Forwarding Unit (SFU) to receive and transmit video streams for each video participant. The video participant’s device needs to support SFU by receiving multiple video streams for each video feed from the UCM and decoding the codec of all video streams before displaying them.

  • IPVideoTalk uses the Multipoint Control Unit (MCU), which mixes all video feeds into a single video stream, so participants decode only one video to see the videos of all parties.

Currently, GVC3200/3202 only supports MCU and can display only one video feed from the UCM, which is the video conference moderator. Video feeds of other participants cannot be displayed at the moment. SFU is supported for GVC3210, and it can display up to 9-way video (conference control is not fully supported on GVC3210 and compatibility needs improvement).

For video conferencing, does the number of video feeds and audio codecs impact the allowed number of participants in the conference?

Note: By default, in the UCM6300 series, “Full Band HD Audio” is enabled, allowing the use of Opus with a 48kHz sampling rate. If users prefer more than 4 video feeds or more participants in the conference, please log in as an administrator to the UCM6300 series web user interface, go to PBX Settings -> General Settings, and configure the “Conference Audio Quality” option as “Wide Band HD Audio” instead.

How can I calculate the required bandwidth for each participant in the UCM6300 series for video conferencing?

  • For conferences with 4 or fewer video feeds:

Required bandwidth per participant (in Mbps) = (A1 + B0.172) * 1.2 + 0.1 Where A is the number of 1080p video feeds (A = 0 or 1); B is the number of participants excluding A. (B = Total number of participants – A); 1.2 represents the consideration of additional video bandwidth costs like packet headers; 0.1 represents the bandwidth for audio.

  • For conferences with more than 4 video feeds:

Required bandwidth per participant (in Mbps) = X * 0.172 * 1.2 + 0.1 Where X is the total number of participants; 1.2 represents the consideration of additional video bandwidth costs like packet headers; 0.1 represents the bandwidth for audio.

  • For conferences with screen sharing:

In UCM6300 series video conferencing, are all video feeds using 1080p?

No, only one video feed can be 1080p or 720p. Additionally, if there are more than 4 video feeds or screen sharing during the video conference, the video bit rate for 1080p/720p video feeds will be reduced.

What are the default video bit rates and frame rates for UCM6300 series video conferencing?

For 1080p video: 1 Mbps/15 fps. For 720p video: 512 kbps/15 fps. For 360p video: 172 kbps/15 fps. For screen sharing: 512 kbps/5 fps.

These configurations can be modified based on user preferences, and the trade-offs between video quality and maximum participant count may affect the total maximum conference participant limit.

How can I use UCM6300 series behind NAT?

  • If using UCM RemoteConnect service, the UCM6300 series behind NAT can work with your Grandstream devices, Wave Web, and Wave mobile apps without additional NAT settings on your network routers. However, if end-users experience audio issues, ensure that in UCM6300 series web user interface->Added Values->Remote Connection->Plan Settings, the Media NAT Traversal Service is enabled. By default, it’s already enabled.

  • If not using UCM RemoteConnect service:

Method 1: Configure port forwarding for your UCM. This will be limited by the type of NAT of the UCM and the endpoint devices.

Method 2: Use self-deployed or existing STUN/TURN servers. In the UCM6300 series web user interface, you can go to admin PBX Settings->RTP Settings, enable ICE Support manually, and configure STUN/TURN server settings accordingly.

How can I configure the audio quality of conferences?

Go to PBX Settings->General Settings and configure the “Conference Audio Quality” option. Setting it to “Full Band HD Audio” will use a 48 kHz sampling rate for the Opus codec component, resulting in significantly better audio quality using Opus.

Note: When “Full Band HD Audio” is selected, the “Max Video Feeds” setting on the Conference Settings page under Call Features->Video Conferencing is currently limited to 4. Future hardware and software updates might lift this performance limit.

How many LDAP entries can be in UCM6300’s internal memory? How many people can UCM6300 return per endpoint device query?

There is no exact limit to the number of LDAP entries UCM6300 can store. It’s recommended to limit it to 20,000 to avoid affecting the performance of the UCM web page. The number of people returned per endpoint device query will be constrained by the number of people supported by the endpoint device.

I can’t use my desk phone, Wave Web, and Wave mobile app with the same SIP account simultaneously. Why?

To use the same SIP account on a desk phone, Wave Web, and Wave mobile app simultaneously, you need to allow 3 or more simultaneous registrations for the same SIP account. By default, the number of simultaneous registrations is set to 3. You can change this setting by logging into the UCM6300 series web user interface, going to Extensions/Trunks->Extensions, and editing the “Concurrent Registrations” extension option to 3 or more.

Note: The same SIP registration password is used to register the SIP account on the desk phone and to log in with the internal number on Wave Web/Wave mobile app.
